Real Palm Sugar From India
This palm sugar from India is sold in an 8 oz heavy plastic bag. I moved it immediately to a canning jar so I could keep it fresh and see it better. I have no experience with palm sugar so this review might help someone elsewho's never had it either. Well, the little nuggets are basically hard as rock, so to use in cooking it'sgot to be ground, grated or melted. The bag label calls it "Palm Candy" and it does actually taste great all on it's own. Like a cross of turbinado sugar and light brown sugar. Only hard like the mexican brown sugar "piloncillo." You could easily place a few nuggets in something like a cheese grater or a food processor. I'm betting this would be awesome melted with butter and used as a foundation for a lot of sticky sauces.Palm sugar is supposed to have all kinds of beneficial things in it like minerals and be less trouble for diabetics than processed sugar with a low glycemic index. The prices of it are all over the board online, but I found very few products actually from India.

Tastes Great
This tastes like rock candy made with molasses and toasted almonds. Very pleasant; I thought it quite sweet and my husband thought it only slightly sweet and more of a peanut flavor. I do not eat high sweet items; so, I think most may find this less sweet than I do. And, while which nutty flavor people may pick up may differ; those who enjoy roasted nuts will like the flavor of these.

Poor Quality
Bought this for my 8 month old. The product has a very bad almost artificial kind of a smell. Also could see dirt particles getting separated when soaked in water.

It's just expensive palm sugar
According to the advertising copy"Palm Sugar Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS): Oral rehydration solutions are used to maintain the electrolyte balance within the cells of our body.Boosts Energy Levels: It takes very little time for palm sugar to be broken down and absorbed by the body.Contains rich molasses and minerals. Used in India for thousands of years."So let's take a look at that, shall we? You can make ORS solutions from any kind of sugar. Coconut palm sugar is no worse and not much better than other sugars. It still has a sky-high glycemic index which is what all that "boosts energy levels" stuff is about. It also has most of the same deleterious health effects as white sugar. Its molasses has some B vitamins and a few minerals but not enough to qualify as healthy by any stretch. So let's just treat it as lump coconut sugar. It's on the expensive side. At $1.25 an ounce it's two or three times the price of competing products on Amazon. And it doesn't even come in the convenient jar that some other brands do.Sensory qualities are fine. It's got the spicy molasses taste of unrefined palm sugar. Sweetness is high, but not quite as high as refined sugar. Consistency is a little softer than the hard pucks palm sugar often comes in.So... it started off as a "four" and lost stars for being overpriced and making misleading claims.

Interesting candy/ treat
This is pretty good. For me, it tastes a bit like the charred sugar you get on a creme brulee with a heavy honey flavor. It isn't bad at all but just by itself your like okay I either like this or I don't. I enjoyed this more as my lump of sugar additive to my coffee/tea. Offers a very complementary flavor in both cases. Price point seems a bit higher then other kinds but I don't have this local and did enjoy it .
